Why We Built This...

The Colour Catalogue started with a simple idea: it should be easier to find Black-owned businesses, not just in the cities we know, but wherever life takes us. We’ve searched for them while planning vacations, after moving somewhere new, and right in our own hometowns.
 

Sometimes because we simply wanted to be more intentional about where we spent our money, and sometimes because what was happening in the world reminded us just how important that choice can be.

So we started building the resource we kept looking for. The Colour Catalogue is a small, independent labor of love, researched and built city by city, business by business. There’s no massive staff behind the scenes. Just two real HBCU graduates who care deeply about creating something useful, thoughtful, and worthy of the businesses and communities it represents.

And we want to get it right. Businesses open, close, move and change, and we know there will be great places we miss along the way. If something needs correcting, or there’s a business we need to know about, tell us. The Catalogue will keep growing, changing, and getting better as we do. Not because we expect to get everything perfect, but because we believe this is important enough to keep working toward.
